What you will be able to do
Artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning (AI/ML/DL) are key technologies driving our incredible mobility advancements. In this important role, you’ll help develop the common platform that is critical to enable these technologies to deliver a wide range of capabilities in general compute, sensor processing and connectivity. You will help develop cutting-edge in-vehicle software frameworks, enablers and solutions for the next-gen software architecture. This position will require outstanding research capability, technology development skills and the ability to work within the framework of security, privacy, usability and reliability constraints in the automotive environment. It will also involve generating intellectual property and document findings. You will:

  • Lead the advancement of hypervisors, containerization, virtualization, APIs, adaptive and classic AUTOSAR, OTA and other emerging concepts
  • Brainstorm and lead portfolio projects to implement emerging technology trends
  • Develop and implement new technologies, standards and/or processes for vehicle software platforms – both in-vehicle and communicating with IOT/edge devices
  • Help Ford become a leader on cutting-edge software development/deployment
  • Develop frameworks for AI/ML in alignment with the feature and cloud teams
  • Drive research from concepts to minimum viable product to tech transfer
  • Generate and document intellectual property
  • Lead supplier collaborations for next generation software practices, technologies and standards
  • Develop software and hardware integration test environments
  • Debug sophisticated software, evaluate and test for production readiness
  • Lead projects through Ford’s Global Technology Development System (GTDS) and discovery process
  • Support knowledge transfer to production teams
  • Participate in technical workshops to enable the advancement of a common software platform, software development and software deployment

The minimum requirements we seek

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science
  • Four or more years of experience in Programming with C/C++/Java/Python on a real-time embedded system

Our preferred requirements 

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in Engineering or Computer Science
  • Two or more years of experience designing software using design patterns and UML tools
  • At least two years of experience with real time operating systems (e.g., QNX, OSEK, etc.)
  • Android experience is a plus
  • Two or more years of experience using configuration management tools (e.g., GITHUB)
  • A minimum of two years of experience with networking protocols (e.g., TCP, UDP, MQTT, DDS, etc.)
  • At least two years of experience designing software architecture/frameworks
  • Previous experience with IOT or cloud and mobile development principles, technologies and tools
  • Experience resolving complex real-time software problems
  • Proficiency with static and dynamic software validation tools
  • Experience with emerging hardware architectures and software standards (e.g., multicore, hypervisors, AUTOSAR, ISO26262, etc.)
  • Experience with vehicle electrical architectures and embedded software development based on Agile
  • Ability to develop hardware demonstrations for research and production implementation
  • Background in common scripting language (e.g., Python, Perl, etc.)
  • Self-motivated with desire to develop research concepts and create quantifiable data to evaluate production readiness
  • Experience optimizing microcontroller architecture for software implementation
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to thrive as part of a diverse distributed team
